David Penner Architect is a Winnipeg architectural consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of cultural, commercial, institutional and residential work spanning 23 years of professional practice. Often working in collaboration with other design professionals and client groups, DPA has developed an effective and inclusive approach to design that results in balanced, hearty and engaging productions. The firm's principal and founder, David Penner, has 28 years of experience in the design and construction industries, and he remains intimately involved with all work produced by the firm. Budgeting and cost control are key aspects of the design process at DPA.
David Penner, Principal, MAA, FRAIC is a registered Architect in Manitoba. David has developed and maintained an architectural practice since 1993. He is committed to the idea that well designed environments enhance the quality and effectiveness of the workplace and the home. Contextualism, minimalism, cost and functional effectiveness are key components in all his projects.
David graduated with a Masters of Architecture in 1985, and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in 1979. He is currently the President of Storefront Manitoba, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the awareness and appreciation of architecture and design in Manitoba. David sits on the Urban Design Advisory Committee for the City of Winnipeg, at the Public Affairs Committee of the Manitoba Association of Architects and chairs the Prairie Design Awards Program. He is also actively involved in developing the Architecture & Design Centre for the Province of Manitoba.
Prior to establishing his sole proprietorship, David trained at the offices of Stechesen Katz Architects (1986-1993), Calnitsky Heshka Associates (1985), James and Rollier (1983-1984), Smith Carter Partners (1981), and the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, Engineering and Architecture Division, Government of Canada (1979-1980).
